Fauna
The rainforests of the Wet Tropics which is the area immediately surrounding Cairns, are a living museum of flora & fauna. Placed on the World Heritage list in 1988, they cover over 900,000 hectares of rainforests & tropical vegetation.
Crocs, sharks, snakes, lorikeets, jellyfish, mobs of kangaroos and of course cane toads - the fauna of North Queensland is wild, wacky and can also be dangerous.
Cruise the mighty Daintree River spotting for wildlife and saltwater crocodiles, inhabitants of the mangrove-lined riverbanks. Many of the tours that operate out of Cairns enable visitors to experience & explore this fantastic natural attraction.
